An overseas Pakistani with a passion for gardening and a desire to be an agent of change in Pakistan. Having grown up in both Pakistan and Canada, Azhar considers himself fortunate to have experienced the best of both cultures. Azhar holds a Mechanical Engineering Degree from University of Toronto and is currently a practicing Professional Engineer based in Ontario Canada.
Anas is a Chief Operating Officer at a Real Estate and Marketing firm and has a keen interest in the agriculture sector. Anas has built a small scale livestock farm and has been operating it for the past three years. He has also experimented with growing sesbania seeds (fodder), mustard, dates, lemons, oranges and various other produce varieties.
Dr. Qayoom is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Agriculture and Agribusiness Management at the University of Karachi. His teaching and research career spans 15 years during which he has worked with various reputable R&D organizations. His work focuses on agronomy, seed production, and pest/disease management of vegetable crops in particular. He has also published several research papers and articles in journals of national and international repute. Dr. Qayoom serves as the very vital link between KUAI and University of Karachi's DAAM (Department of Agriculture and Agribusiness Management)
A true outdoorsman with a passion for environmental protection. For the last four years Shabib has been a core team member of GreenSquad, a club that organizes plantation activities in Karachi. He is also an active member of Crops in Pots. His corporate core work is in emergency disaster management, adventure eco-tourism, and marketing. Shabib brings a wealth of experience, passion, and enthusiasm to KUAI.
Hassan is a recent graduate from the University of Karachi's Agriculture and Agribusiness Management program with a major in Agribusiness. Besides the day to day site operations duties Hassan is also heading KUAI's pilot composting project.
A student of the botanical sciences at University of Karachi, Madiha enjoys gardening and wants to bring the passion of gardening to the masses through initiatives like KUAI.
Ashley is a professional agronomist from Canada who has had a passion for plants since she was a small child. In the long summers as a child, she would garden alongside her grandmother and it was then that she realized her love for greenery. Ashley graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a bachelor’s degree in science and a major in Soil Science. Besides farming in Canada's prairies, she also runs her "Gardening in Canada" Youtube channel where she posts informative videos about plants and gardening. The focus of Ashley’s YouTube channel is to bring science to gardening in a way that is informative but also helpful to others learning to garden. Ashley hopes to expand her YouTube channel as well as her reach to up and coming gardeners. Ashley advises KUAI on science based gardening principles and is helping KUAI develop sound growing practices and techniques
Dr. Asma is the Manager of Research Operations and Development at University of Karachi's Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization. She has consistently promoted a culture of entrepreneurship at the University and she has also played a leadership role in establishing the Karachi University Business Incubation Centre (KUBIC). She has more than 14 years of research experience with a particular focus on commercial development of Karachi's coastal seaweed. Dr. Asma has published several research articles in journals of national and international repute. KUAI's vision personally resonates with Dr. Asma and her leadership has been instrumental in laying the foundations of KUAI.
Shoaib Saleem is an Entomologist at the Government of Pakistan's Department of Plant Protection (DPP), Ministry of National Food Security & Research. A graduate of University of Karachi's Department of Agriculture and Agribusiness Management, Shoaib obtained a national scholarship to study and work as a Research Scholar at Honey Bee Lab, Department of Entomology, Michigan State University, USA. His current study involves stresses by pesticides (Neonicotinoids), Varroa destructor, temperatures, transportation, and pollination on the physiology and colony function, as well as the behavior of pollinators and honey bees. Currently, he manages the bee colonies at the University of Karachi and teaching different courses at the Department of Agriculture & Agribusiness Management, University of Karachi as a Visiting Lecturer. He has several research publications in national and international journals.
